How does it work?

Laser treatments deliver intense, highly focused beams of light to the dark pigments in hair follicles beneath the skin’s surface to permanently disable them. As the light is absorbed by these pigments, it converts to heat that in turn destroys the follicle and prevents hair regeneration. For a successful treatment, the follicle must be active (Anagen phase) at the time of the procedure. Not all follicles are active at the same time, so multiple sessions are required.

What is the difference between Diode Laser and IPL or other lasers?

  • The number of treatments. With this laser you will need 8 treatments in average, with other lasers 12 to 18 and with IPL 25 to 30.
  • It is 50% less painful than IPL
  • Each session is 50% faster
  • Treatments are done every 6 weeks in average
  • The risk of burns is reduced in 80%

What to expect?

The length of a laser treatment may last from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area treated.

The laser treatment may cause very slight discomfort; however, most patients tolerate the procedure comfortably.

The appearance of the treated area immediately following treatment will vary from patient to patient. Side effects, if any, may include redness and swelling around the hair follicle. Most people return to their normal activities, without experiencing any down time.

How often are treatments needed?

It is important to realize that the actively growing hairs (anagen) are most affected by the laser. As all hairs are not in this phase at the same time, more than one treatment will be necessary to achieve the best results. Four to eight treatments at intervals of 4-8 weeks are recommended depending on the body area being treated.

Instructions PRE treatment

  • Avoid sun exposure of the area to be treated at least 15 days prior and 15 days after the laser treatment.
  • Keep the skin well hydrated since dry skin cannot be treated due to increased risk of burn.
  • Do not use self tanning products, as well as products to bleach hair 15 days prior.
  • Don´t exfoliate the skin or use chemical peels for 1 week prior.
  • Avoid other epilation techniques that remove the hair root such as wax, tweeze, thread, etc.
  • Use sunscreen on treated areas permanently
  • You should come to the appointment with no make up, lotions, perfumes and deodorant.
  • The area to be treated should be shaved 24 hours prior to the laser treatment.

Instructions POST treatment

  • In case of redness you could apply moisturizing cream or thermal water to calm the skin
  • Use sunscreen on treated areas.
  • Avoid sun exposure 15 days after the laser.
  • Continue to shave the hair whenever needed.
  • In case of any side effect report immediately to the dermatologist.

WHAT ARE THE PRE AND POST RECOMMENDATIONS?

  • All patients are encouraged to be well hydrated 2 days before, during and for 2 days after treatment, as well as 20 minutes of cardio exercise to increase lymphatic drainage and allow the destroyed fat cells to exit the system.
